One day, James Sunderland receives a letter with this content, from Mary Sheperd Sunderland. James knows that his wife could not have written him a letter. She is dead. A terrible illness killed her more than three years ago. Despite everything, James cannot stop wondering who could have sent him this letter, if it is a macabre joke, and that is why he decides to go and investigate. He takes his car and goes to the mysterious town of Silent Hill, but the tunnel that connects to the old part of the town is closed, so James has to walk the stretch. A thick fog covers the path that descends to a dirt field. After much detour, he reaches a cemetery, where he finds a young woman. It is Angela Orosco, a girl who is in Silent Hill looking for her mother. She warns James about the dangers of Silent Hill, but he replies with a cold "I know, but I don't care": he is determined to find his wife and get to the bottom of the mystery.
